WORKSHOP SERIES

detour dance's workshop series brings company artists, guest facilitators, and guest participants together with the goal of deepening our creative + performance practices. We focus on embodied voice, physicality/movement, text, devising, the ensemble, presence, risk, and play.

Each month, detour invites a guest artist to facilitate a portion of the workshop. detour dance and guest facilitators lead each other in exercises, activities, structures, and prompts. Past Guest Facilitators include Mark Jackson, Monique Jenkinson/Fauxnique, Beth Wilmurt, Brenton Cheng, Madeline H.D. Brown, Liz Tenuto, Chris Black, Evan Johnson, Tina D'Elia, Edward Michael Sandridge III, Jesse Hewit, Christian Burns, Lauren Simpson, Jenny Stulberg, Paul Heller, Christy Funsch, Deborah Eliezer, Gerald Casel and Katie Faulkner.

Most importantly, these workshops are an opportunity for collective research and experimentation. This is truly a workshop setting, not a class. Come prepared to actively participate!

Interested participants must fill out the intake form below, regardless of involvement in previous workshops. Spots are limited! A pay-what-you-can donation is required to participate in this workshop. Your support enables us to continue creating accessible year-round arts programs!
