This was actually an assignment for my dance composition class where I decided to explore the past. Over the past few months my friends and I are constantly saying that we wish things could go back to the way things were. During this uncertain time I feel like I’ve lost my sense of self, so I tried to find old videos and reconnect to who I used to be. These clips are from this past year during my freshman year of college in Seattle. I was a dancer, I was a student, I was happy, I was free, I was creative. Trying to find that spirit again inside myself.

A friend sent me a jpg of this photo earlier this year. I'd never seen it before.
Sometime in the early 90's. Think R.E.M's Automatic for the People. Think black
Doc Martens. Think ACT UP T-shirts. I'm at my friend Tim's apartment on Potomac Street, right off of Duboce Park, an apartment that always smelled like patchouli (you could smell it before you reached the front steps of the building!)
And this picture was taken before we all had smartphones so a paper photograph in a friends photo album in LA.
I look so calm (I wasn't). I look so young (Didn't think I was, early 30's). I look content (Well, some of the time.)

I spent some time with my maternal grandparents to do my family tree. We were able to go as far back as my great great grandparents — beyond that was quite impossible. I have some family in Cuba that I’ll be in contact with that know that information and I look forward to finding out more! Designing a family tree is extremeley hard (space issues), but really good stories came from this exercise. Next up: paternal side.
